Nestled in the heart of Joo Chiat, Imperial Smithster is both a working jewellery studio and a creative space dedicated to craftsmanship and learning.
Surrounded by one of Singapore's most culturally rich neighbourhoods, the studio draws inspiration from Joo Chiat's heritage, where colourful shophouses, independent businesses and generations of artisans have shaped a vibrant and enduring creative spirit. The area has long been known for its blend of tradition and modernity, making it the perfect home for a studio that celebrates handmade craft.
Designed to welcome both beginners and experienced makers, the space is equipped for silversmithing, wax carving and bespoke jewellery production. More than just a workshop, Imperial Smithster is a place where stories are shared, skills are passed on, and memories are forged alongside precious metals.
The Studio
Led by founder and jeweller Johnne, Imperial Smithster is supported by a small team of makers and educators who share a passion for craftsmanship and creative exploration.
With over 12 years of experience in jewellery making, Johnne has dedicated his career to preserving traditional metalsmithing techniques while making them accessible to modern makers. What began as a personal pursuit has evolved into a studio where bespoke commissions, workshops and collaborative creativity come together under one roof.
Together, the team combines experience in jewellery-making, design, and education, guiding everyone from first-time workshop participants to couples creating meaningful pieces to mark life's milestones.

About Lost Wax Casting
Lost wax casting is a 6,000-year-old process still used in both manufacturing and fine art. The precision and accuracy of the process have made it an ideal method for producing objects with thin walls, intricate details, and close tolerances. The process is used to create parts for transportation, agricultural, and medical industries, to name just a few. It can be used to create objects from simple to complex in various metals by casting an original wax model or pattern. The wax model makes an expendable mold that can only be used once in casting. This guide focuses on the lost wax casting process with metallic alloys. You can also use lost wax casting techniques to create cast glass objects.
Based in the sunny island of Singapore, The Imperial Smithster is reviving the ancient art of lost wax casting. A technique shrouded in mystery, born since the days of the pharoahs, it would, as its name suggests involve the carving of wax, burning the wax away ( lost wax) , then replacing the wax with any metal.
With the current trend of everything bespoke, we use this technique to produce everything from jewellery, desktop ornaments, custom utensils, keepsakes to everything in between, carefully handcrafted with the utmost attention paid to details.
